Residential Lighting Design - The Brief
This project involved the complete refurbishment of a five-bedroom detached home in Skipton, where every room was stripped back and rebuilt. Alongside new layouts, finishes, and a new kitchen, the brief included a full lighting design and installation across the entire property.
Rather than treating lighting as part of the electrical package, the aim was to design it properly so it supports how each space is used, improves how the home feels and adds visible value to the finished result.

From the very beginning of the project, I knew the lighting needed to be something special. I didn’t want standard ceiling lights that just do the job — I wanted a proper, high-quality lighting scheme that would act as a real feature, enhancing the architecture, making the spaces feel more spacious and comfortable, and creating the right mood whether it was daytime or evening.
That’s why I brought in Nicholas Rickerby and his company VEVO Lighting & Acoustics to design and install a complete, professionally engineered layered lighting scheme across the entire house.
The Lighting Design Scheme
The solution to the breif was a fully layered lighting scheme, designed to give each room the right level of light for how it’s used.
In the kitchen, this means strong, clear light for cooking alongside softer lighting for evenings and entertaining:

Technical Lighting Installation
A key part of the project was getting the technical side right so the lighting works consistently across the whole house. This includes how light is distributed, how it can be controlled, and how it integrates into the overall design.
Everything has been built into the new design beautifully, is fully dimmable where it matters, and delivers a premium feel without overpowering the décor.
